And what easier way to do that than right here on Toy Street? Because that’s right, you’ve guessed it! We are very proud to announce we now stock Hasbro toys and games!
Hasbro History
Hasbro – named after it’s founders the Hassenfeld Brothers – first opened it’s doors in 1923 Rhode Island. They originally began selling textile remnants, but soon moved onto pencil boxes and school supplies. It wasn’t until the 1940s that Hasbro began bringing out toys, it’s first being doctors and nurses kits, and soon after the well known Mr. Potato Head was born – but not as we know him today. The original Mr. Potato head came as a kit which included plastic feet, hands, ears, mouths, eyes, noses, and more; the potato head itself was a real potato and was not included in the kit, this had to be provided yourself.
Over the next 20 years Hasbro continued to release toys and launched the first ever action figure with the introduction of G.I. Joe. In the 70s, with the rise of Star Wars the Hassenfeld brothers company made a range of Star Wars toys which were hugely popular and led to their immense growth throughout the 80s. Hasbro soon became the biggest toy company with the launches of My Little Pony and Transformers and then Tonka and Furby in the 90s.
Over the years Hasbro has only grown and continues to innovate and lead the way in the toy industry. Hasbro has partnered with film studios such as LucasFilm, Marvel Studios and Dreamworks and has become much more than just a game and toy retailer.
Hasbro Collections
Nerf is a toy brand part of Hasbro’s collection which makes a variety of foam-based weaponry known as Nerf guns. Nerf’s most popular product is the Nerf Blaster which is a gun style plastic toy which shoots out harmless foam darts. The darts are tipped with suction cups so they are able to stick onto smooth surfaces and some even make a noise as they surf through the air! Some Nerf darts can also attach to Velcro which means they can stick onto specific Nerf vests during a battle!
Play-Doh, a proud member of the Toy Hall of Fame is one of Hasbro’s most well known products. It’s a putty-like substance that was originally made to clean residue from wallpaper, but has now evolved into a popular children’s toy. Play-Doh can be moulded into any shape imaginable and comes in a variety of colours. If you’ve smelt Play-Doh you’ll know it has a very specific scent which has now been trademarked and made into a perfume!
Hasbro take family game night to the next level with their fantastic range. Monopoly may just be Hasbro’s most famous board game with over 1000 different versions from classic Monopoly to Monopoly Gamer. The earliest known version of Monopoly was called The Landlord’s Game and was designed by an American lady named Elizabeth Magie, the game was first patented in 1904 but could have existed as early as 1904. Since Hasbro has been at the helm Monopoly has gone from strength to strength with regular updates to the game and new versions being released regularly.
