When Do Babies Start Playing With Toys?

Watching your baby grow and learn new things has to be one of the most monumental moments as a parent. It can be tricky to know when to do the right thing and the ways to do it. For example, you might think there is a right age to start giving your baby toys to play with, but the truth is, every baby Is different and will go at their own pace. So the question, when do babies start playing with toys, is one that can only be averagely answered.
Let’s Get Playing
Toys usually have a recommended/ suitable age on them. It’s usually a good idea to follow these guidelines for the safety of your child.
It’s estimated that babies start to ‘conventionally’ play with toys from the age of 6 months old. This is when they’re walking, maybe (kind of) speaking, and have a bit more of a proper sense of their surroundings. You’ll find them knocking over the lego towers you spent hours putting together, throwing balls and catching them from this age.
However, babies will usually be playing with rattles, chewing toys etc… from pretty much a newborn. Whether you want to class this as playing with toys or not is your choice, but for the conventionality of it, we’d say 6 months old is when they officially begin.
Getting Older
As your baby starts to get older, they will begin to get a ‘favourite’ toy which rarely leaves their sight. It is a good idea to keep track of when your baby starts to make new and minor improvements to the way they play as it is a good way of tracking their development.
Your baby will likely change as they grow in segments, for example, newborn – 2 months they will be attracted to one thing such as a rattle, but as they get older, 2-4 months, they will find an interest in something else as they are trying to do things more independently as a natural way of life.
There is a short guide, which we hope answered your question of when do babies start playing with toys.
